Helping your employees dream.
Consider this…
What if a company, your company, hired a "life coach" (or as I would call myself, a Life Development Coach) to help each employee map out their 10-year/5-year/3-year/1-year/90-60-30-day professional and personal goals and dreams?
I’ve found that some people don’t know how to dream because of past experiences or failures. Therefore, the coach would help them learn how to dream again. It could mean that this coach partner with a financial advisor and helps put together a financial plan and makes introductions to help an employee buy their first home. It could mean advising and coaching an employee to put together a plan to "finally take that vacation" they keep talking about. Or help an employee lose that 15 pounds they have wanted to lose for good, but could never keep off. Or, learn the skills to advance into management and earn more money.
Whatever it is, as leaders, we already know how to dream. We have our 10yr/5yr/3yr plans. We know how to dream, create, and execute. However, most people don't know how to do this. Most people don't know how to whiteboard their life out.
Having a life coach for your staff, or a Dream Manager, would increase your company culture beyond measure. We have seen organizations have better-working relationships, create more fulfillment within their roles, and have better employee engagement after hiring us to coach their employees.
We complain that our employees aren't engaged. But, maybe we should start asking the question, "How do I engage my employees?" Or better yet, "How can I help grow and develop the MOST VALUABLE ASSET AND RESOURCE MY BUSINESS HAS?" Your people.
